Covered Product Start Date and End Date.

I’ve got a question regarding the Covered Product object. As per this the Start Date and End Date are not getting populated on Covered Product records.  I’ve checked the SFM’s and in both of them we haven’t defaulted the value for Start Date and End Date (of Covered Products) as there is no option to default to a field from Parent, it can only be defaulted to a specific value.  Also the helptext of these fields says “Start date of service contract/warranty at the time of entitlement”. However even after entitlement this did not get populated. Is there a ServiceMax setting for this to work?  The other option I see is to create a workflow rule to pick it up from Service/Maintenance Contract if empty on creation. Please advise
