We use the ServiceMax iPhone Winter 17 app that has a built in bar code scanner.
It works great when there is lots of light, but when you are in a cellar or behind a machine and the light is very dark, the current implementation of the bar code scanner is useless.
Currently, if you try to enable your torch, as soon as the bar code scanner is launched, the torch is switched off and disabled, which you can see here:
Therefore you cannot use the light feature of the phone and cant read the bar code due to the darkness.
This idea is to update the app to allow the torch to work while the bar code scanner is on screen
OR... even better...
To add a flash icon into the bar code scanner UI to allow you to toggle the phones light to switch on and off. If the light is on and you close the bar code scanner, it switches off the light. Working as a torch instead of a flash would be better, as it will help the camera to focus better
It could look something like this...
Other improvements could include updating the help screen under the "i" button - Because it has a black background and black scroll bars, you have no idea you need to scroll and that there is more help down below. I only discovered this today when creating this idea!
What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
Making the bar code scanner work in low light
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
