Generate the PDF Output document (and name of PDF) on the Mobile device

Generate the PDF Output document (and name of PDF) on the Mobile device

Generate the PDF Output document (and name of PDF) on the Mobile device

Create the Output document in the Mobile app on the Mobile device and allow the name to be configurable.

Creating the output document (such as the Service Report) on the local device would provide a more seamless process where the user does not have to wait for the PDF to be created on the SFDC server and then brought back to the Work Order on the mobile device. The current hard coded naming convention is not customer friendly

  1. Naming convention
    1. Allow the PDF name to be decided by the customer and allow it to be configurable for different roles (profiles or countries)
    2. If possible, add a version number such as V1, V2 if subsequent PDFs are created.
  2. Create the document on the iPad when Finalized
  3. Email the Document after it's finalized and created on the mobile device.
  4. Save the output document to the SFDC Server on the next data sync
What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
Our users are not currently using the Output Doc feature. Programming (Trigger) changes are required to enable us to use this feature

Completely agree with all the points here, especially 1 and 3!

Being able to configure to which addresses the document is emailed too would also be a big benefit, for example the contact linked to the case and the email field we have called "on-site contact" on the work order.

1. Output document Name : This is similar to the idea here https://community.servicemax.com/t5/Other-Features-Tools-Ideas/Output-doc-PDF-filenames/idi-p/13270.... On the roadmap. Idea is to enable this on SFM designer and apps respect this.

2. Versioning : This support exists on Web and FSA apps as of 18.3 and 19.1 respectively. This is applicable only when Salesforce Files is used.

3. Create PDF on the mobile device : FSA Windows app already does this and will continue to do so. FSA iPad and Android apps do not do this, no plans to change. The new mobile phone apps (iOS and Android) generate PDF on the client itself.

4. Email PDF : This is not available OOTB, but an accelerator is built by Professional services team to automate this using a trigger (https://community.servicemax.com/t5/Mobile-Discussions/SVMX-Output-Document-workflow-to-automaticall...). Do you use that? Will that work?

I have a few questions and comment

#1: Output Document Name - the link provided for the related idea is not working

#3: Create PDF on the mobile device: Why will this NOT be extended to FSA on the iPad/Android devices? Which new mobile phone apps for the iOS & Android create the PDF on the client (and do you mean the mobile device?).  Will these be extended to the iPad?

#4 Email PDFIf the PDF can be generated on the device, why not use the Apple share button. The User could then email the PDF to whoever they need to and there would be no trigger to manage sending emails from within SFDC.

Thanks,

John W

Hi @johnw ,

1. Try this link instead.

2. The next gen phone apps (iOS and Android) that will go GA end of March 2019 will also have a tablet version on these platforms this year. This tablet version will have capability to generate OPDOC offline on these platforms.

For Windows,  product plan is to continue with FSA Windows (which will also get reskinned this year) and this already has offline PDF generation capability.

This along with some tech limitations on the FSA iOS and Android tablets are reasons for my statement. Hope this clarifies.

3. For the next gen apps (which can generate PDF offline), we could have an OOTB solution. I'll update this idea based on its status in our backlog. Thanks

Hi, Archana.

It sounds like we may need to split this in to multiple Ideas.  Based on what I'm reading

1. Output document Name : Could this idea be combined with this idea here https://community.servicemax.com/t5/Other-Features-Tools-Ideas/Output-doc-PDF-filenames/idi-p/13270.... On the roadmap. Idea is to enable this on SFM designer and apps respect this.

2. Versioning : Could this be marked as delivered This support exists on Web and FSA apps as of 18.3 and 19.1 respectively. This is applicable only when Salesforce Files is used.

3. Create PDF on the mobile device Could this be closed as combination of delivered (for FSA Windows) and Not Planned for FSA iPad and Android  FSA Windows app already does this and will continue to do so. FSA iPad and Android apps do not do this, no plans to change. The new mobile phone apps (iOS and Android) generate PDF on the client itself.

4. Email PDF :Could this be marked as delivered or not planned as we have the accelerator that would work and it sounds like it is panned for OOB.  This is not available OOTB, but an accelerator is built by Professional services team to automate this using a trigger (https://community.servicemax.com/t5/Mobile-Discussions/SVMX-Output-Document-workflow-to-automaticall...). Do you use that? Will that work?
