How to have one location associated to many accounts?

We would like to know how does one handle/setup having one location associated to many accounts.  We are running into duplicate location issues due to creating different locations so that we can tie them to different accounts and then once projects are done we are having to merge them, etc.

Here is a sample:

  • We have a location called "Torres-Irvine" that is part of the Customer Account "Torres Company" that we service.
  • The location "Torres-Irvine" is having some new work done to their doors by a Project Management company called "Project Management Door".
  • They are also having some new work done to their docks by a Project Management company called "Project Management Dock".
  • We currently have all three accounts setup (Torres Company, Project Management Door, and Project Management Dock) since we are doing work with all 3 of them.
  • What is happening right now is that our users are creating locations for each of these accounts. So in the end we will have 3 locations setup for the 3 different accounts. When the projects are done we will merge them into one (if they remember to tell us) and keep it under the main account that it belongs to.
  • We also have IPs tied to the Project Management accounts/locations while the construction is being done and then we transfer them to the main location/account at some point.  We would like to setup a trigger/rule to have the IPs change to the main account/location once the warranty has expired.Mike Monin

Questions:

Is there a way to just have one location tied to multiple accounts?

What is the best practice for this scenario?

How are others handling this type of setup?
