We need the ability to view a work order attachment on the iPad without saving it to another app such as iBooks. Because of compliance and versioning issues, we cannot have our technicians store a copy of the attachment on their iPads. Instead, we would like the ability to view the attachment without saving it.
We are unable to effectively use the viewing capability in Summer 15. This is because the user cannot toggle between the viewed copy and the work order without losing his/her place. Returning to the viewed PDF causes the document to return to the beginning.
The functionality of saving and viewing in iBooks is ideal except for the saving of the document in the background. Our ideal solution would be to open the attachment in a PDF viewer and allow the user to keep their place in the document as they toggle between the work order and the work instructions.
We are requesting this change for the Field Service Application, as that is the platform we will be moving towards.

What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
We need to be in compliance with our regulatory agency by ensuring that the technician is using the latest revision of the work instructions while on a job. We are trying to reduce risk of an obsolete work instruction being stored on the mobile device.
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
The technicians have additional devices that can view the most recent work instruction. This requires that the extra device be onsite.
