From a usability perspective, it would great to have field visibility dependent on the value for a picklist field in an SFM Layout. That is, if I select option 2 from a dropdown field A, then fields D, F, and G become visible while fields B, C, and E disappear. If the selected option changes for field A, then the various fields change visibility again.
While this is similar to dynamic checklist paths, this is slightly different. This is for a static page layout, not branching to other questions, etc.

What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
Usability so that the user only sees those fields relevant to the what they are doing based on values selected in picklist fields.
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
Yes, but only in that all fields of an object/record are shown, regardless of the user activity.
