SFM data validations require all fields that are referenced in the validation rule to be included in the SFM page layout. This creates unnecessary clutter. Ideally, the rules would be able to work even if the referenced fields are not on the layout. For example, if an inspection is performed and a measurement value must be recorded to ensure the installed product is in compliance, the 'minimum tolerance' value would need to be on the layout as well as 'maximum tolerance' and 'measurement value.' Since the data validation would need to ensure that 'measurement value' is in between 'minimum tolerance' and 'maximum tolerance,' all these fields must be included. Ideally, 'measurement value' could be on the layout without the other fields and reduce visual clutter in this way. This is especially important if the technician is recording many of these measurement values.
What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
Eliminate clutter from the SFM page layouts by only including necessary fields
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
All fields referenced by SFM data validation rules must be included in the SFM page layout to work. There is no work around today\; all referenced fields are included.
