We had developed an SFM which switched the Order Status on a Work Order to a new status called on-hold. We failed to add the on-hold value to the dropdown list, however. Generally this isn't a problem for us since Order Status is locked on the page layout and the SFM will still update the Order Status even if it isn't in the dropdown list.
This caused a problem for us, however. If the user opened the SFM in the browser and clicked on the Order Status field, the field would blank out once the user clicked or tabbed to another field. Even though this field was read-only on the SFM, the action of focusing on the field would blank it out every time. Once the user saved the SFM, the Work Order would have a blank Order Status. Since this field controls which SFWs/SFMs are displayed, it really disrupted the workflow and required system admin intervention.
The short term solution was to add the on-hold value to the dropdowns for each of the Work Order record types. However, we are requesting that ServiceMax enhance the SFM process so that the field cannot be blanked out, even if the user clicks on it. If we set the field for read only, it should truly be read only.
What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
We hope to eliminate the blanking-out of the Order Status field (or any other field) on an SFM if the dropdown value is missing.
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
We are handling this on a case-by-case basis by getting a system admin involved to reset the Work Order status. The interim solution will be to add the dropdown value\; however, this is difficult in an FDA-validated environment.
