ServiceMax Migration Tool - Migrate SFW Toolbar Layout configuration in the same order

ServiceMax Migration Tool - Migrate SFW Toolbar Layout configuration in the same order

ServiceMax migration tool will migrate SFW Layouts but does not always match from source to target org or it will randomly changes the SFW toolbar layout configuration order.

Another possibility would be to improve existing SFW Layout configuration GUI in ServiceMax Setup so it's easier to shuffle Layouts.  For example, it would be nice if an Admin could just click on the SFW toolbar and drag it to another position in the layout.  If I wanted to move the 1st to the middle of the list -- I would have to do a lot of work to re-order these in a large list that many some customers have for various business units.

What is the underlying problem do you intend to solve with this idea?
Save time by eliminating a time consuming manual post deployment migration step to make the SFW toolbar order correct for each object.
How is the problem being addressed today, if at all?
time consuming manual post deployment migration step now

Sharing proposal on how the behavior would be when implemented (In the road map). Please share your thoughts

1. Introduce an option to select object(s) for migrating SFM Wizard Layout Configuration

2. As part of validation

  • We will check if user has necessary permission for selected objects.
  • We will check if all the Wizards for the selected objects exits in target org.
  • If yes, then we will check if the target org has extra wizards configured.
  • If yes, then we will list those extra wizard(s) and ask for confirmation to overwrite.
  • If no, i.e, all  wizards are not present in target org then we will not allow wizard layout migration for that object and list those wizards that are missing in target org.

3. If overwrite option chosen, then target org layout configuration will be overwritten similar to source org.

4. If overwrite option not chosen then Wizard layout configuration will not be migrated.

5. Details of the same will be captured in logs.
